Positive Parenting
This is a specialist area taught by a Child Care Specialist who has lectured on both Child Care and Education. These are closed small groups (6)

In positive parenting clients are encouraged to acknowledge the effects upon them in their childhood of parental use of alcohol or drugs. They are encouraged to reflect on the quality of the parenting that they received and how it has influenced their behaviour in adulthood. They are also asked to look at how they have parented their own children and the painful reality of how this has affected them.

Within both of these they are asked to explore the role of drugs/alcohol as a negative coping mechanism and are asked to identify, practice and maintain more positive coping strategies which are to enhance the sense of wellbeing in both parent and child. They are encouraged to undertake risk assessments as a natural part of their parenting responsibilities.
