Community engagement

Rebuilding Lives Through Real-World Experiences

At Westcliffe House, we believe recovery is not just about what happens inside the therapy room — it’s also about reconnecting with the outside world.

That’s why we actively support clients in taking part in local community activities, helping them build confidence, create new routines, and develop a healthy balance between personal healing and social connection.

Looking Outward, Growing Inward

Involvement in community initiatives helps clients:

  • Discover new interests and hobbies
  • Rebuild social skills and confidence
  • Create healthy, sustainable routines
  • Develop a sense of belonging and purpose

As part of their individual Care Plans, clients are encouraged to engage with a range of external groups and support networks, including:

  • Community-based projects
  • Faith groups and churches
  • Mutual support groups such as AA and NA

Partnerships That Make a Difference

We work closely with local organisations to provide enriching opportunities for our clients. Some recent examples include:

Holiday Giving Projects

Clients collaborated to build large, decorative gingerbread houses over Christmas — each one was donated to a local hospice or charity, offering a creative way to give back.

Environmental & Life Skills Courses

In partnership with Goblin Combe Environmental Centre, clients completed a 6-week programme resulting in three qualifications:

  • Woodland Skills in conjunction with Adult Education
  • Mendip Outdoor Pursuits – Team Building

Adult Learning & Creative Skills

Clients are encouraged to engage with the National Careers Service, Job Centres etc. Whilst staying at Westcliffe we require all Clients to undertake adult education as part of our programme. These courses include the following:

  • Computer literacy
  • Adult literacy
  • Basic maths skills
  • English
  • Driving theory

A Foundation for the Future

These activities aren’t just about filling time — they’re carefully chosen to help clients build confidence, learn new skills, and rediscover a sense of self-worth. Many go on to pursue further education, employment, or volunteering after completing their programme.

At Westcliffe House, we don’t just support recovery — we support reintegration, renewal, and real-world success.

The Westcliffe Difference: Truly Individualized Care

We firmly believe that effective healing begins with understanding the person behind the addiction. Our high staff-to-client ratio allows us to facilitate small, concurrent group sessions. This provides a safer, more intimate setting with greater opportunities for self-expression and deeper understanding—ensuring you receive the truly individualized care you deserve.
